The production of the DVD series ‘Montessori – an Inspiration’ was a labour of love for its directors and producers, Lagis and Theo Zavros of Alethea Productions. Working on its development over a number of years, many painstaking hours were spent researching the Montessori philosophy, capturing footage, writing scripts, and editing to bring to you the comprehensive and thought provoking six-episode series.

Lagis and Theo’s passion for Montessori education stems from their own experience when they first came into contact with the method more than twenty-five years ago. Not content with the traditional education system and feeling it was unable to provide the nurturing environment they felt was necessary, they enrolled their first child at the age of three into the Montessori School in the suburb of Kingsley (Perth, Western Australia). Their second child also joined the school just a few years later.

Their children have developed into intelligent, well-rounded, thoughtful, and independent adults. Lagis and Theo believe their level of development could not have been achieved without the support and guidance of a Montessori education. Both children successfully completed their full scholastic studies at the Montessori School (including an International Baccalaureate Diploma) and went on to complete a university degree and an apprenticeship, with the eldest now running his own business.

For Lagis and Theo, developing the documentary was a way of putting something back into the Montessori pedagogy as well as forever capturing on film the practical side to Montessori. Although growing in popularity, Montessori is still an education method that is not widely known. This documentary will assist many parents and others in understanding more about the Montessori philosophy and the lifelong benefits it brings to the child.
